I’ve been working with wood since I was young, and after a 35-year career in the heating and air industry, I finally have more time to spend doing the work I’ve always enjoyed - turning good wood and interesting ideas into pieces people are proud to own.

Derek Smiley Woodworks is a small Idaho shop where every piece gets my personal attention. Some projects begin with a design I’ve created; others start with a customer saying, “Can you make something like this?'“ Those are often my favorites.

I work with carefully selected hardwoods, CNC carving, laser engraving, layered designs and resin to create everything from wall art and crosses to cutting boards, gifts and one-of-a-kind custom pieces. Whatever I’m making, the goal is the same: solid craftsmanship, thoughtful design and something I’d be proud to put my name on.
